My HCG Diet Rant

I just read in the Huffington Post an article by a doctor decrying how the hCG diet keeps popping up even though it is “junk science”. This kind of reporting makes my blood boil. Not that I really care what people think of the hCG diet but because of the bastardization of science itself.

This doctor went on to label the hCG diet as junk science using several examples that were inaccurate and siting general unnamed studies to “prove” his point. Is this what scince has come down to?

One of his glaring mistakes was to say that it was obvious that hCG taken orally would be destroyed in the stomach. Come on, hCG drops are not swallowed, they are placed under the tongue and absorbed through the thin tissues there directly into the blood stream. HCG is not the only medicine to be administered this way. The fact that he go this so wrong tells me that he doesn’t understand the hCG diet; doesn’t want to, but yet wants to be counted an expert on it.

I have problems with hCG drops, but not for the reasons he spits out. My problem with hCG drops is the same as my problem with Homeopathy in general.

Do You Know More Than A Doctor?

Heck, yes in some cases. I know more about the hCG diet than most doctors and I know more about picking a banjo than most doctors. I know more about music production than most doctors, etc.

Just being a doctor doesn’t mean you are an expert at everything. Today, science is being more and more defined by consensus rather than the scientific method. Paste a few letters after your name and get a bunch of other people with letters after their name to agree with you and some how it becomes fact.

This type of garbage has replaced the dogma of the church in the middle ages and if you think outside their box they will excommunicate you from science.

The truth is, almost all studies done on the hCG diet miss the mark by a wide margin. What is needed in the examination of the hCG diet is a double blind study that uses placebo and hCG injections. Then they need to ignore whether people felt hungry or whether they lost ‘x’ amount of pounds but instead measure the body fat percentage.

If most people on the hCG lose most of their weight from body fat and most of the people on the placebo lose their weight from lean muscle tissue then the hCG diet will be demonstrated to have merit. If they found on the other hand that there was no difference in the tissue lost by either the control group experimental group then it would be demonstrated that the hCG diet doesn’t really rely on the hCG hormone.

HCG for diet is intended to direct the body to protect lean muscle tissue and target the body’s fat reserves for fuel. The studies done so far only look at weight lost and hunger issues which have little to do with what hCG is supposed to accomplish.

I am not saying that I have proof hCG does what it says other than my own experience and hundreds of thousands of hCG users anecdotal research. While most hCG diet critics are knee-jerk reactionaries that have scant knowledge of the hCG protocol and certainly have never tried it. They just love to sit in their ivory towers and spew knowledge to the great unwashed masses.
